We are a national centre for the promotion and facilitation of research in the humanities. Through our institutes and our specialist hubs, we train the next generation of humanities researchers, connect humanities researchers and practitioners across disciplines and sectors, and provide unique humanities research infrastructure to create new knowledge and new formats for collaboration. We offer a range of short courses across our institutes, libraries and hubs. You might also like to visit our Summer Schools page for upcoming seasonal courses.
Credit-bearing modules
We offer the following online modules which can be studied individually by distance learning. These modules can also be taken as part of our MA in Human Rights, Postgraduate Diploma in Human Rights or the Postgraduate Certificate in Human Rights. Find out more here.
Please note that the autumn session runs from September to January and the spring session runs from February to June annually.

Applications for the 2026 session will open in late 2025.
This one-week short course, run by the Refugee Law Initiative (RLI), covers research methods and ethics relating to the interdisciplinary study of refugees and forced migration.
This intensive research methods course provides high-quality training in methodology and ethics, by drawing on the extensive teaching experience and networks of the RLI. The course is aimed at early PhD students working on forced migration issues in the fields of social and political sciences and law, as well as early career researchers, humanitarian and development workers, civil society, and consultants working on issues relating to displaced persons.
