The Institutes of the School of Advanced Study are inviting proposals for the 2018 round of the prestigious British Academy Visiting Fellowships. These fellowships are available to academics based in any country overseas; they will allow researchers to work with colleagues at UK host institutions in order to develop new research collaborations and/or deepen existing partnerships.

Eligibility Requirements

British Academy Visiting Fellowships are available to any researchers active within Humanities or Social Science disciplines. They are available to researchers at all stages, from talented early career scholars through to established academics. Collaborations may be formed for cross- or inter-disciplinary research.

Value and Duration

The awards are for up to £33,000 will support subsistence and accommodation; research expenses; travel; and a contribution to the hosting institution. Each Visiting Fellowship may last a maximum of six months.

Application Process

Expressions of interest must be submitted before Tuesday 09 January 2018 to the Director of their chosen institute, copying The expression of interest should include:

  • CV
  • A 100-word abstract
  • An outline (2 pages maximum) of the research proposal, including intended publication outputs

Applicants who are to be supported by the School of Advanced Study will be notified by 11 January 2018.

Once SAS has agreed to support a candidate, applications must be submitted online using the British Academy’s Flexi-Grant system. The final application deadline is Wednesday 31st January 2018 (17:00 UK time).
