Centre for Public Engagement Practice in Arts and Humanities

The Centre for Public Engagement Practice in Arts and Humanities supports researchers, practitioners and organisations to develop innovative and exciting ways for the public to engage with research.
The Centre for Public Engagement Practice in Arts and Humanities is a transformative addition to the UK public engagement landscape, creating vital opportunities and resources for researchers, engagement practitioners, and a wide range of research, cultural and community organisations.
Through the creation of innovative funding grants, enhanced networks of practice, new platforms for documentation and evaluation, and dynamic training and support services, the Centre will address key challenges facing public engagement practitioners, and deliver significant benefits for those working in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and in partnership with other disciplines.
Most importantly, the Centre will stimulate innovation and enable new and exciting methods to engage the public in research.
Aims and Objectives
The Centre will support engagement practitioners to form new networks to shape the future of public engagement across the sector. These will include practice-led and action-orientated networks to promote collaboration and innovation, and focus networks to advocate for institutional support for engagement work.
The Centre will offer tailored support to public engagement teams and researchers at both higher education institutions and cultural organisations. New open-access resources and digital training will also provide a range of targeted support and opportunities for professional development.
The Centre will develop better spaces for documentation, evaluation and promotion of public engagement work, and more opportunities to make connections with stakeholders outside the higher education sector. This will include a Digital Record of Practice, which will provide a collective resource for practitioners to record the activities, achievements, impact, and learning from their work – and a gateway for learning from the work of others.
The Centre will drive innovation through new schemes for experimentation, collaboration and exploration of new approaches. It will support stakeholders to devise collaborative activities which go beyond traditional methods and approaches, and encourage collaborative working across disciplines and sectors.
