Doctoral Research

My research explores the development of a multimodal translation methodology for the digital archiving and representation of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH). Using Yangjiabu woodblock New Year paintings as a case study, this study integrates multimodal analysis and intersemiotic translation to ensure a comprehensive and contextually rich digital portrayal of ICH. By examining the unique characteristics of ICH and analysing how various modalities interact within heritage practices, I aim to bridge the gap between traditional cultural expressions and digital preservation strategies.

Through an interdisciplinary approach—drawing on digital humanities, social semiotics, and cultural heritage studies—this research contributes to the broader discourse on safeguarding ICH in the digital era. Ultimately, it seeks to provide a theoretically informed and practically oriented framework for the effective preservation of ICH in today's digital landscape.
