Lecturer in Medieval History, Co-director SAS Doctoral Centre
Profile
With Naomi Wells I am co-director of the SAS Doctoral Centre and responsible for the School’s doctoral provision and research training strategy. My own research interests are in the history and archaeology of early medieval Europe, particularly from c.650 – c.1150. Current research concentrates on cultural meanings of human bodily immersions in water in Late Antiquity and the early Middle Ages. I am also very interested in medievalism (the post-medieval evocation of the Middle Ages) especially in usage and appropriation of the barbarian Middle Ages in popular culture, on which I have published extensively.
