It is generally known that anti-/a-gelastic currents run through much of the thinking of early Christian authors. Yet, laughter in late antique studies seems to have been underestimated in its diversity, mainly because the relevant research has focused on the antigelastic and antitheatrical attitudes of key Christian figures, leaving other categories of sources relatively unexplored. The Work in Progress seminar explores the variety of subjects studied and researched at the Warburg Institute. Papers are given by invited international scholars, research fellows studying at the Institute, and third-year PhD students.
