An event following the publication of Global Culture after Gombrich: Mind Art World, edited by Cao Yiqiang, John Onians, Nicolas Penny and Matthew MacKisack (Intellect, Dec 2024).

As globalization and technological advancements reshape cultural and artistic landscapes, the assumption often arises that traditional values clash with emerging modern identities and diverse practices. With the values of both emerging modernism and the diversity of global practices. This event is designed to investigate this tension and to explore how established norms influence individual artistic practices and societal expectations while also celebrating the acceptance of diverse perspectives in world art.

The event will feature a discussion among five contributors to the book, stemming from a symposium held in Hangzhou to commemorate Gombrich’s 110th birthday in October 2019.
