'Sir Hans Sloane’s library: disconnected, dispersed – and reconnected?'
Sir Hans Sloane’s wide-ranging collections included a library of over 45000 books. Most are still held by the British Library, but dispersed within its collections. The Sloane Printed Books project began in the 1980s, aiming to list and analyse the library, and was made available as an online resource from 2008. It is currently unavailable in its original format due to a cyberattack, but over 30,000 of the BL catalogue records for Sloane’s books include some information from the database. Recently, the collaborative projects www.reconstructingsloane.org and www.sloanelab.org have brought together work on other areas of Sloane’s collections, showing the wider contexts in which his library functioned.
