Remembering Clyve Jones
Clyve Jones, a member of the library staff of the IHR for 35 years until his retirement in 2006, died on 21 June. Besides giving loyal service to the Institute, recognised by the award of an honorary fellowship, he was also a distinguished historian, producing a significant body of work on the British parliament (especially the House of Lords) in the 17th and 18th centuries. One of the founders of the journal Parliamentary History, he was its editor for over a quarter of a century, and in that capacity played an important role in consolidating its reputation and extending its reach.
The Trustees of Parliamentary History and the IHR have come together to sponsor this memorial event, which will enable Clyve’s colleagues and many friends to celebrate his life and work. There will be short formal presentations on the different facets of Clyve’s career, as librarian, scholar, and editor, and on his contribution to the history of parliament, as well as ample opportunity to share reminiscences informally over drinks.
All welcome-This event is free to attend, but booking is required.
