"Limerence"


I provide a philosophical interpretation of the psychologist Dorothy Tennov's underrated book Love and Limerence: The Experience of Being in Love (1979). My first goal is to reconstruct a compelling account of a distinctive human experience that is, surprisingly, poorly understood by philosophers (and everyone else). My second goal is to show how the account of limerence helps us draw essential distinctions in the philosophy of sex and love, leading to an illuminating and revisionary take on which sex and love concepts we should use, as well as other benefits for practical deliberation about human relationships.
