Join us in celebrating the Pi Day (3.14) with Raspberry Pi!

Raspberry Pi is a series of small single-board computers (SBCs) developed in the UK by the Raspberry Pi Foundation, and used all over the world to learn programming skills, build hardware projects, do home automation, implement Edge computing, and use in industrial applications.

In celebrating the Pi Day with Raspberry Pi, the Digital Humanities Research Hub in the School of Advance Study will be running two introductory sessions, as well as showcasing some Raspberry Pi projects. Come along and learn how you can use Raspberry Pi for work and play, how to get started, or drop by for a chat about all things Raspberry Pi.

Introduction to Raspberry Pi, 11:00-12:00

The session aims to provide an overview of Raspberry Pi, covering the history and exploration of the features it has come to be known for – compact size, low power consumption and affordability – and the limitations, and potential uses of Raspberry Pi in Humanities research, teaching and learning.

Getting started with Raspberry Pi, 14:00-15:00

This session will provide a practical guide through the basic concepts and steps to getting started with Raspberry Pi, covering how to assess which Raspberry Pi is suited for your project, what peripherals you may need, and how to choose and install the operating system. This is a hands-on session, and there will be a few Raspberry Pi available for participants to try out setting up themselves.

Project demos, 11:00-16:00

There will be Raspberry Pi projects on display, such as Museum in a Box, Itty Bitty Learning Machine, Kiosk Display, and Retro Gaming Console, which participants are welcome to play with and/or have a chat with digital makers.

All welcome
