A Living Archive of the British Black Power Movement of the 1960s-70s

A London Arts & Humanities Partnership Collaborative Doctoral Award with the School of Advanced Study, University of London, and the UK National Archives.

We are seeking candidates for a doctoral project exploring the British Black Power movement of the 1960s-70s through state surveillance of its unofficial publications. This will involve using innovative approaches to archival research and oral history to produce an important study of the movement, which will enlarge the scope of work on radical print and the policing of racialised communities.

Further information on the scheme and a link to the application form can be found on the London Arts & Humanities Partnership website.

The deadline for applications is 26th January 2024.

Please note,  applicants will need to apply for a PhD place at the host academic institution, the Institute of English Studies, before submitting their submitting their CDA application to the LAHP. Details of the application process are available here.

For queries specific to the project, please contact the project’s lead supervisor Pragya Dhital ([email protected]) or Collaborative Partner Supervisor Kevin Searle ([email protected]).
