This workshop examines the challenges and opportunities of engaged research faced by mid-career academics in literary study and  practice research disciplines in creative writing, music production, film, and the wider Humanities.

A collaboration between Keele University, School of Humanities and the School of Advanced Study, University of London, this is fourth event for mid-career academics supported by the School of Advanced Study since 2022 and takes disciplinary identity as the starting point for reaching out to other areas of the humanities.

We aim to
  • identify subject-specific challenges for those at this often tricky career-stage and facilitate collaborations across disciplinary boundaries and institutional silos.
  • share information and resources, to offer opportunities for peer-support and networking, and to consider possibilities for moving beyond mid-career.

You can download a copy of the Keele University campus map here.

Bursaries

The workshop is supported by the School of Advanced Study and Keele School of Humanities. Participation is free and a limited number of bursaries of up to £150 are available to support travel or to help with other costs (such as childcare) to enable attendance.

  • Bursary prizes are limited, so if you are interested, please apply by Sunday 9 March 2025 filling out this form
  • Applicants will be informed of a decision by the end of the day on Wednesday 12 March 2025.

We recognize that the term ‘mid-career’ is open to a range of interpretations, situations, and career stages. This event is aimed primarily at academics who have achieved employment stability but have not yet, or have only recently, been promoted to Professor.
