Marie-Pierre Baduel, who has a PhD in American history and literature, works on slave narratives and the history of slavery. Her dissertation focused on slave narratives published before the Civil War and more particularly on the images of blood and skin color. Slave narratives are studied as literary work and political speeches. The title of her dissertation is: « ‘Such cruel pride of blood and color’: relire les récits d’esclaves au prisme de l’humanisation ». Her advisor was Prof. Nathalie Dessens and they are both members of the laboratory CAS (Center for Anglophone Studies). Marie-Pierre Baduel is also an English teacher at University Paul Sabatier Toulouse III.
