You are very cordially invited to join us in the Reemtsma Auditorium for a special event in words and music in celebration of Emeritus Professor Charles Burnett, marking his recent retirement as Professor of the History of Islamic Influences in Europe.

5.30pm: Lecture by Charles Burnett: ‘The Transmission of Arabic in the West: Letters, Words, Texts and Curricula’

The massive infiltration of Arabic elements in the West altered the face of European intellectual culture in the Middle Ages. This lecture investigates this movement under the categories of individual letters and symbols, common and technical terms, texts on all manner of subjects, and whole corpora of works that fed into the curricula of early European universities and schools of medicine.

6.30pm: Short concert including Bach Brandenburg Concerto No.6
