This annual series of in-person talks and Q&A, followed by drinks and discussion, will take place held each month, alternating between rooms in the University of London and in Garden Court Chambers. A drinks reception will follow where speakers and other participants can continue the conversations in a more informal and relaxed setting.

“Defining refugees under the new legislative frameworks”

This session reflects on how to understand and shape the codification of inclusion elements of the refugee definition by the 2022 National and Borders Act that is being worked through in domestic jurisprudence. We will look at issues ranging from the legislative change to the refugee definition’s standard of proof to the possibilities of international protection generated by climate change.
