For over 30 years I ran Horsham Museum and built up one of the finest (and most important) collections on the poet Shelley, but museums don't collect books, libraries do; museums collect things, and archives collect records, but I also collected those as well. This seminar will explore the complex world of institutional collecting in a landscape where no one was collecting - the libraries were selling off the collections to pay for computer programs, archives don't collect stray documents, and museums ran out of space. So
the trials and tribulations, and anecdotes aplenty. It's not about topography, but cultural identity and meaning of place.

Unless stated otherwise, all our events are free of charge and anyone interested in the topic is welcome to attend. Registration is required for all events.
