Clem Seecharan, the distinguished historian of Guyana and Caribbean cricket, will talk about his career as a historian and the history of cricket in the Caribbean. He will also cast an eye over the contemporary cricketing scene and draw out the historical roots of the social, economic and political challenges facing the game today.

Clem will be in conversation with David Woodhouse, whose 2021 book, ‘Who Only Cricket Know: Hutton’s Men in the West Indies’, won numerous awards including The Cricket Society/MCC Book of the Year.

There will be ample opportunity for a Q&A with the speakers and the convenors would encourage anyone with an interest in the history of the British Empire, the Caribbean or cricket to attend in person or via Zoom.

This seminar is a join collaboration between the British Society of Sport History, the Institute of Historical Research and The Cricket Society in recognition of Prof Seecharan’s receipt of the BSSH/TCS Howard Milton Award for Cricket Scholarship in 2023.

Please note that registration for this seminar will close 24 hours in advance so that the seminar convenors can distribute the meeting details to registered attendees.

All welcome- this seminar is free to attend, but advance registration is required.
