Despite the explosion of scholarship focused on the presence of people of African ancestry in Britain, there still remains much less intellectual attention on the social, cultural and political lives of Black people prior to the 20th century. This seminar brings together scholars working on Black British history during the 17th to 19th centuries to discuss the challenges, limitations,  but also the importance of researching and teaching in this earlier period.

All welcome- this seminar is free to attend but advance registration is required.
