This free online training session will provide an overview of the practicalities of delivering a public engagement event. Come along to explore the key elements to consider in the run up to your event and on the day itself to ensure your event runs smoothly. 

The session will be led by the Being Human Festival team and will cover topics such as coordinating your team, key things to think about when preparing your event space, accessibility and inclusivity, and the audience experience. 

We will be joined by past festival organiser Susan Monkton (Cardiff University) who will provide real-life examples and top tips to consider when delivering an event as part of Being Human Festival.

This session is primarily aimed at those applying, or thinking of applying, to take part in Being Human Festival, but is open to all.

Susan Monkton

Susan works as a Public Engagement and Civic Mission Officer at Cardiff University. Her role aims to support colleagues across the University's various subjects to develop, deliver and evaluate quality engagement with public groups. The role helps researchers engaging with the public and those looking to engage with our Civic Mission. Working with brilliant colleagues, Susan has organised the Being Human Festival Hub at Cardiff for the last two years and has been proud to be a part of the incredible work from the event leads. Susan has been at the University for 5 years, and has previously worked in third sector, NHS, hospitality and the arts industries.

Joining the event

This event is free, but booking is required. It will be held online and joining details will be circulated via email to registered attendees. 

This event is part of a series of Being Human Festival training sessions exploring public engagement with research. The sessions will be led by expert facilitators with experience in their field and the Being Human Festival team. While the sessions are primarily aimed at those taking part, or thinking of taking part, in Being Human Festival, they are open to all. The sessions run from February to October 2025.
