The Warburg Institute is offering a 5-day (15 hour) intensive course in Intermediate Renaissance Latin, online via the zoom platform.

This course is designed for students at intermediate level and will run over five days, Monday to Friday, 22 - 26 May 2023, from 11:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 15:00 (UK time / BST).

It will focus on grammar, syntax and practical issues of translation in the mornings, and in the afternoon sessions on Latin texts from the fourteenth to the sixteenth century.

A basic knowledge of verbs (active forms in all tenses), nouns and adjectives will be assumed, and we will focus (inter alia) on the passive, participles, subjunctives and various constructions. In the afternoon classes we will focus on a range of Latin Renaissance texts, both prose and verse, that engage with a variety of themes. One of the key aims of the course is to help students develop the ability to read original sources in Latin with greater ease.

The course is taught by Dr Lucy Nicholas (Warburg Institute).

Fees (for 5 online classes taught across 5 days = 15 hours total):
  • Standard: £160
  • Warburg staff & fellows/external students/unwaged: £145
  • SAS/LAHP students: £130
  • Warburg students: £70

The running of this course is dependent on minimum student uptake, so early booking is advised.
