Dr Linda Risso, IHR, SAS

Fake news is nothing new. It has been part of our history since we started to live in groups. What is new, however, is the pervasive nature and immediacy with which fake news spread through social media. We are relentlessly bombarded with contradicting information, opposing claims and attacks on the very idea that there are such things as truth and expertise. Linda Risso discusses what we, citizens caught in the middle of the fight for our hearts and minds, can do to navigate the new information environment without getting caught in the maelstrom. This lecture will be introduced by Professor Sarah Churchwell, Chair in Public Understanding of the Humanities at the School of Advanced Study.
