Attending an Event

The nine institutes of the School collectively offer a wide range of seminars, workshops, lectures, conferences, and other academic events.

The majority of our events are free and open the public. Most of our events do not require advance booking.

Most events take place within the central University of London precinct in Bloomsbury, central London.

Events are subject to change; please check the event's webpage for the latest information.

Accessibility
We take our responsibility to visitors with special needs very seriously and will endeavour to make reasonable adjustments to accommodate such needs. If you have a particular requirement, please discuss it confidentially with the event organiser ahead of the event.

Safety and security
To ensure everyone’s safety and security, bags and rucksacks may be searched before entry and security personnel may ask to see photograph ID. While you are in Senate House, please do not leave bags or rucksacks unattended at any time.

University of London’s position of the boycott of Senate House
A small group of politically motivated campaigners has called for a boycott of events at Senate House in support of outsourced workers. We believe this call is illogical and are dismayed by the wildly inaccurate and misleading claims that have been made. Sadly, School of Advanced Study academic staff and event organisers have been subjected to intimidatory attacks and harassment by the campaigners, often from anonymous social media accounts. We hope that your attendance at our events and support for the event organisers will send a strong message that this behaviour will not be tolerated. There is no picket line: visitors are free to come and go subject only to brief security checks.

The University supports the principle of insourcing services and is following a methodical programme to do so. Front of house, portering, post room, and AV services have already been brought in-house. To learn more about how the University is bringing outsourced workers in house, please visit our information page here.
