The Germanic Studies Library houses almost 100,000 volumes covering German, Austrian and Swiss-German language and literature from their respective beginnings until the present day, with particular emphasis on primary texts, journals and reference works.

There are significant holdings on 18th-century drama, exile, expressionism, the George-Kreis, Swiss and East German literature, and substantial manuscript and archive collections.
