The School of Advanced Study, University of London is part of a consortium bidding to the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) under its Block Grant Partnerships 2 (BGP2) competition.

BGP2 awards will be given to research organisations or consortia of research organisations to provide funding for postgraduate studentships from 2014. The BGP2 scheme will be the AHRC’s main route for providing postgraduate research and training during this period and will focus on capacity for supporting doctoral studentships.

The School assures UK higher education institutions and research organisations also bidding to this scheme that its services and support will be available equally to those institutions as to School partners. Its bid partners will enjoy no special services by bidding with the School but the consortium may, of course, elect to provide additional services and support to its students with such Cohort Development Funding and Student Development Funding that it might win from the competition. The School and its 10 institutes welcome approaches at a School or Institute level from institutions who wish to feature School research facilitation and support services in their own bids.

The unique mission of the School is to provide research facilitation and promotion services and support for humanities and social science researchers UK-wide. Much of this work is enabled by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) Special Funding, enhanced by funding obtained by School academics in the form of research grants, fellowship funding, taught and research postgraduate fees and philanthropic donations (all funding streams in which the School is in direct competition with other higher education institutions and research organisations). The School, therefore, welcomes applications for collaboration in any of its research support activities and services.
