IALS Archive achieve national accreditation

The National Archives ( TNA ) has given a major boost to the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (IALS), part of the University of London’s School of Advanced Study, by designating the IALS Archive as an ‘Accredited Archive Service’. This UK quality standard raises the status and visibility of the IALS Archive and enables it to apply for external funding for conservation and cataloguing projects to improve and develop its services further.

Ancestry.com pairs with IALS to digitise historic legal exam data

An ambitious project to save the unique collection of the Law Society’s examination papers held in the archives of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies ( IALS ) at the University of London’s School of Advanced Study has reached a significant milestone. Working in partnership with Ancestry, the genealogy company, the institute has completed the digitisation of hundreds of examination records dating from the 1860s to the 1940s, making them available online for the first time.

Dr Sue Onslow leads new policy thrust for Institute of Commonwealth Studies

The University of London’s School of Advanced study has appointed Dr Sue Onslow as interim director of the UK’s only postgraduate institution devoted to the study of the Commonwealth, the Institute of Commonwealth Studies ( ICWS ). Currently a senior research fellow and the institute’s former deputy director, she takes up her new role this month.

School of Advanced Study part of partnership in £3.4m funding boost for UK researchers

A major partnership including the University of London’s School of Advanced Study ( SAS ), has been awarded £3.4 million to create a Development Network with approximately 500 research and innovation leaders from across the UK. In addition to fellows recently appointed via the Future Leaders Fellowship ( FLF ) scheme – UK Research and Innovation’s (UKRI) flagship interdisciplinary funding scheme – the network will include up to 200 further researchers and innovators nominated by the research councils.

Foyle Foundation supports the Warburg Renaissance project

The Warburg Institute has been awarded a grant of £150,000 from the Foyle Foundation towards the Warburg Renaissance project. The project will transform the Warburg Institute, physically and intellectually, by restoring its original vision and making it ready for future generations. It will enhance the Institute’s academic resources, teaching facilities and public offerings, and create new facilities for special collections, exhibitions and events.
