Professor Iwan Morgan to speak at two debates on Obama at the Battle of Ideas

Professor Iwan Morgan will be participating in two debates at the forthcoming Battle of Ideas on Sunday 1 November at the Royal College of Art, Kensington Gore. ‘Mr Obama Goes to Washington’ (1.45pm-3.15pm) will explore the extent to which Obama has instituted real change since coming to office. The other panelists are: James Crabtree, managing editor, Prospect; Bronwen Maddox, chief foreign correspondent, The Times; and Helen Searls, senior executive producer, Feature Story News. The chair is Cheryl Hudson of Oxford University's Rothermere American Institute. ‘America, Obama and the Recession’ (5.30-6.30pm) will address whether the economic policies of the Obama administration will lay a foundation for longer-term growth in the USA. The other panellists are: James Matthews, a management consultant and NY Salon member; Carl Mortished, world business editor, The Times. The chair is Alan Miller, co-director, NY Salon, director and producer, TV, theatre and documentaries. Iwan Morgan is Professor of United States Studies and head of the US Presidency Centre at the Institute for the Study of the Americas. Professor Morgan is the author of the recently published The Age of Deficits: Presidents and Unbalanced Budgets from Jimmy Carter to George Bush (University Press of Kansas), which will be launched on 19 November.
