Institute of Commonwealth Studies secures major AHRC research grant to produce a unique digital research resource on the oral history of the Commonwealth since 1965

The Institute of Commonwealth Studies , a member institute of the University of London’s School of Advanced Study, has secured a major grant of £398k from the UK’s Arts and Humanities Research Council to fund its ‘An Oral History of the Modern Commonwealth, 1965-2010’ project.

Dr David Starkey launches royal rededication of famous Victoria County History series to HM Queen Elizabeth II

Famous local history publishing project inspired by Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in 1897 Dr David Starkey will launch the rededication to Her Majesty the Queen of the Victoria History of the Counties of England (VCH) by delivering The Marc Fitch Lecture in the Chancellor’s Hall of Senate House, University of London on Monday 25th June.

To mark The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee a celebratory event was held at Salisbury Cathedral Close on Tuesday 1 May at which Professor Miles Taylor, Director of the Institute of Historical Research and Dr Virginia Bainbridge, County Editor VCH Wiltshire, presented Her Majesty with a rededicated volume of the Victoria County History (VCH).

University of London reaches 100,000 podcast views and downloads on iTunes U

The University of London platform on iTunes U, managed by the School of Advanced Study, today reached a milestone 100,000 podcast views and downloads. The University of London on iTunes U, which will celebrate its one-year anniversary on 7 June, enables researchers, students, and the public to download lectures, recitals, and other informative podcasts produced by or in association with the central departments of the University, free of charge. It currently hosts over 50 collections, containing more than 500 podcasts. Contributors to the University of London on iTunes U include:
