Famed British artist Patrick Hughes donates artwork to Institute of Philosophy

The surrealist artist Patrick Hughes - famed for his work on perspective and the creator of ‘reverse perspective’ – will tonight unveil his donated artwork The Books of Venice at the Institute of Philosophy in the University of London’s School of Advanced Study.

Columbia’s Professor James Shapiro to join London’s School of Advanced Study as ST Lee Visiting Fellow May-June 2013

Professor James Shapiro, Larry Miller Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University , will hold the ST Lee Visiting Professorial Fellowship at the School of Advanced Study, University of London for 2012-13. Professor Shapiro, a Shakespeare scholar and award-winning author, will be based at the School in May and June 2013. He will give a series of free public lectures during his time in the UK – at the universities of Durham, London and Sussex – covering a range of topics including early modern biography and the Cowell manuscript.

NZ-UK Link Foundation announces two Visiting Professorships for 2013

HEFCE agrees continuation of special funding to the School of Advanced Study

The School of Advanced Study (SAS) at the University of London is delighted to announce the successful outcome of its funding review by HEFCE, the Higher Education Funding Council for England. In a report published today, HEFCE announced that public funding for the School would be continued at the current level on the basis of a rolling five-year grant.

School launches UK’s first online course for deciphering medieval manuscripts

InScribe provides a set of distance learning materials suitable both for someone interested in exploring Palaeography for the first time as well as for those in need of a refresher course.

The Rt Hon Jack Straw MP will give his third and final 2012 Hamlyn lecture, on the topic of judicial appointments, on 4 December 2012. Organised by the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies – a member institute of the University of London’s School of Advanced Study – the lecture is part of the prestigious Hamlyn Lectures series. Normally held each autumn, the series aims to further knowledge and understanding of the law through the delivery of three public and free-to-attend lectures by a single invited speaker.
