Black Britain Seminars

Launch of PRIMO

The Institute of Musical Research is organising a reception to mark the launch of the beta version of PRIMO: Practice as Research in Music Online. This version will replace the pilot site launched in October 2007 and will provide enhanced functionality. PRIMO offers an open-access repository of practice-based music research in which the primary medium is not the written word but the sonic or multi-media event. IALS Library Survey of Researchers

The Institute of Advanced Legal Studies Library conducted an online survey of law researchers during November.  The survey was publicised in the UK to postgraduate students, law teachers, post-doctoral researchers, librarians, and law school administrators.  The survey aimed to elicit researchers’ views on effective ways of keeping up-to-date on legal information, their access to a range of research material, their use of resource discovery tools, and their suggestions for improvements to IALS Library services.  Over 150 valid returns have been received from over 45 insti

Professor David Cannadine awarded Knighthood

School Fellow, Professor David Cannadine, has been recognised by the Queen in the New Year Honours List for services to scholarship. Professor Cannadine, DLitt, FBA, was Director of the Institute of Historical Research (IHR) at the School of Advanced Study between 1998 and 2003, and until September of last year was Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Professor of Contemporary British History at the IHR. He is now an Honorary Fellow of the IHR and Chair of its Appeal, a Distinguished Senior Fellow of the School and an Honorary Professor of the University of London.

Professor David Cannadine receives Honorary Professorship of the University of London

The Vice-Chancellor has just announced that the University of London Collegiate Council approved the title of Honorary Professor (of the University of London) to be conferred upon Professor David Cannadine, Director of the Institute of Historical Research 1998-2003 and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Professor of British History, Institute of Historical Research, 2003-08, for a period of five years.

Mellon Foundation for a Comparative Study of Cultures seminar series. The Mellon Foundation's Sawyer Seminars program was established in 1994 to provide support for comparative research on the historical and cultural sources of contemporary developments.
