Being Human helps earn recognition for historic UK black cultural icon

Guest of honour:  Bermudan film star Earl Cameron CBE (right), who was trained by Ira Aldridge’s daughter Amanda Britain's first ever black theatre manager, Ira Aldridge, has been commemorated with a blue plaque at the site of the theatre he once ran in Coventry. And it wouldn’t have happened without the School of Advanced Study’s Being Human festival.

Under such pressure it’s hard to see the bigger picture, to collect data and assess whether and how aid could be better delivered. Now researchers from the Refugee Law Initiative research centre at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, are helping to tackle this problem.

New chapter for SAS book scholar as research submissions judge

Professor Greg Woolf elected Fellow of the British Academy

Professor Jo Fox, head of department and professor of modern British and European history in the Department of History at Durham University, has been appointed director of the Institute of Historical Research ( IHR ) at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, with effect from 1 January 2018.

Professor Winters joins UNESCO’s UK Memory of the World Committee

Jane Winters, professor of digital humanities at the School of Advanced Study, has been appointed to the UNESCO UK Memory of the World Committee. She joins a team of expert librarians, archivists and academics who assess applications to join the UK Memory of the World Register and the International Memory of the World Register, online catalogues that highlight culturally significant archives.

Being Human 2017 expands into a global 'Lost and Found'

Free historical re-enactments and walks, workshops, tastings, performance and talks   Being Human (17–25 November), the UK’s only national festival of the humanities, has gone global. It has expanded its reach in 2017 to include new events in Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University, the University of Melbourne and the University of London Institute in Paris.
