New Director of the Institute for the Study of the Americas

The Vice-Chancellor has announced that Professor Maxine Molyneux http://americas.sas.ac.uk/about/maxine.html has been appointed as Director of the Institute for the Study of the Americas with effect from 1 September.

Maxine is Professor of Sociology at ISA, where she directs a Masters Degree in Globalisation and Latin American Development and teaches courses on development policy and practice in Latin America.  She has written in the fields of political sociology, gender studies and development policy, and has published books on Latin America, Ethiopia and South Yemen. Her current research is on the New Social Policy in Latin America with specific reference to cash transfer anti poverty programmes.
