Ernst Bloch Centre transfers to Institute of Modern Languages Research

Wednesday 20 July 2016

The Centre for Ernst Bloch Studies, founded at the University of Sheffield in 2007, has transferred to the Institute of Modern Languages Research (IMLR) at the University of London’s School of Advanced Study. Renamed the Ernst Bloch Centre for German Thought, it will be led by Dr Johan Siebers, IMLR associate fellow and associate professor of philosophy and religion at Middlesex University. He is also general editor of the Bloch Bibliothek, which is run by the centre’s membership comprising national and international translators. The Centre will host the IMLR’s German philosophy seminar and continue its other work through research projects and by facilitating doctoral and post-doctoral studies. The outcomes will be a monograph series and a digital platform for Bloch scholarship. Dr Peter Thompson, who established and directed the centre at Sheffield, has been appointed an associate fellow at the IMLR. Further information and planned events are on the Centre’s webpage.
