British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships

Tuesday 25 August 2015

The School of Advanced Study (SAS), University of London, is the UK’s national centre for the promotion and support of research in the humanities and celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2015. SAS and its member institutes offer unparalleled academic opportunities, facilities and stimulation across a wide range of subject areas for the benefit of the national and international scholarly community. In 2013-14, SAS welcomed 743 research fellows and associates; held 2,081 research dissemination events; received 26.4 million visits to its digital research resources and platforms; and received 202,891 visits to its specialist libraries and collections. The School also leads the UK’s only nationwide festival of the humanities: Being Human.

All its member institutes welcome proposals from suitably qualified applicants for the 2015-16 British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships scheme. These grants enable early-career researchers to strengthen their experience of research and teaching in a university environment, with the aim of developing their curriculum vitae and improving their prospects of obtaining permanent lecturing posts. Fellowships are tenable for three years and cover salaries, small-scale research expenses up to £6,000, and include the mentoring support of a SAS academic. Further specifications can be found here.

The deadline for submitting outline applications is 7 October 2015. Anyone wishing to apply through the School of Advanced Study for one of these prestigious fellowships, should submit expressions of interest to the director of their chosen institute, copying, before 15 September 2015. The expression of interest should include the following:

  • CV
  • An outline (2 pages max) of the research proposal, including intended publication outputs
  • A 100-word abstract
  • Identification of potential mentor

Applicants to be supported by the School of Advanced Study will be informed by 22 September 2015.
