Barry Smith to present new BBC World Service series: ‘The Mysteries of the Brain’

Monday 13 September 2010

Professor Barry Smith, Director of the Institute of Philosophy, will present this new four-part series which examines the surprising answers that contemporary neuroscience is providing to such questions as: How does the brain enable us to recognise a familiar face? Why can't we tickle ourselves? How many senses are needed to taste something? And what makes people disown their own limbs or believe their arm is being controlled by someone else? The series explores how the experiences we most take for granted are due to the silent and hidden workings of several co-operative systems in the brain.

The ‘Mysteries of the Brain’ begins on Monday 20 September at 8pm.
