Professor Peter Adamson, University of London Research Fellow (September to December 2009)
The School of Advanced Study was delighted to announce that Professor Peter Adamson of the Department of Philosophy, King’s College London, was selected as University of London Research Fellow, to be based in the School. Professor Adamson’s research interests concern ancient Greek and medieval philosophy, especially Neoplatonism in both the late ancient and Arabic traditions. Much of his research has thus far focused on the so-called ‘Kindi circle’, gathered around the first philosopher to write in Arabic, al-Kindi (who died about 870 AD).
He has also edited several volumes on topics in Arabic philosophy. In addition, Professor Adamson has published numerous articles on topics in Greek and Arabic philosophy. During his time at the School, Professor Adamson will be at work on a monograph studying the thought of the great doctor and philosopher Abu Bakr al-Razi (who died in 925 AD), and in addition editing a volume on Arabic philosophy in the 12th century.
