Professor James Pfiffner, ST Lee Visiting Professorial Fellow (January to June 2007)

James P. Pfiffner is Professor of Public Policy at George Mason University. His major areas of expertise are the Presidency, American National Government, and Public management. He has lectured on these topics at universities in Europe and throughout the United States as well as at the Federal Executive Institute, the National War College, the U.S. Military Academy, and at the State, Justice, and Defense Departments. He has written or edited ten books on the presidency and American National Government, including The Strategic Presidency: Hitting the Ground Running (2nd edition, 1996). He has also published many articles on the presidency and public management in professional journals, reference works, and the popular press and has been interviewed regularly by print and electronic media.

Professor Pfiffner has done considerable research on the Bush Administration and particularly the deicsion to go to war in Iraq. His aim is to add to his publication the development of a book manuscript, for which he still need to do some research on the use of intellegigence in both the decision to go to war and in the arguments made to the American puiblic and Congress that war was necessart, Part of the evidence that he would need to document and compile comes from British sources, both government docyments and leaked memoranda.

During his time at the School, Professor Pfiffner gave a seminar on Wednesday 28th March and a lecture on Wednesday 23rd May.
