English studies
The Institute of English Studies runs its Methods and Resources Study Days each year. These are open to taught-postgraduate students from English departments across the University of London and the Greater London area. Contact Dr Wim Van Mierlo for further details.
The British Library runs training days in association with the IES. In 2008 they are on 20 and 28 October. Click here for more details.
The IES also runs the AHRC National Research Training Scheme in English Language and Literature, Palaeography and the History of the Book.
History
The Institute of Historical Research provides a well-established and comprehensive programme of short training courses in research skills for historians. Using a range of teaching approaches (workshops, seminars, lectures, hands-on practicals and visits), specialised skills and explained and explored by expert practitioners. The Warburg Institute runs the Resources and Techniques for the Study of Renaissance and Early Modern Culture in association with the University of Warwick.
Law
The Institute of Advanced Legal Studies offers a range of courses for research training in law.
Modern languages
The Institute of Germanic & Romance Studies offers a well-established programme of Saturday research training workshops which are open to any postgraduates who would find them useful. They are aimed at those studying within modern language departments, or on related subjects. Contact Dr Katia Pizzi for details.

The Institute also manages the PORT website, which provides online research training tutorials, plus a gateway to resources in French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Polish, Russian and Italian.
Music
Now organised by the Institute of Musical Research, the fourth year of this highly successful programme, Research Training in Music (RTM), which includes travel subsidy for students from UK institutions outside London, runs at Senate House from October to March.
