Internship Programme

The Human Rights Consortium at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, provides opportunities for students enrolled in a graduate programme to undertake an internship at the School.

The objective of the Internship Programme is threefold:

  • to provide a framework by which graduate students from diverse academic backgrounds can enhance their educational experience through practical work assignments;
  • to expose them to the work of the School and the Human Rights Consortium; and
  • to provide the Consortium with the assistance of highly qualified students specialized in various disciplinary fields.

The scheme is open to all students who are interested in working with academics of the School in organising, facilitating and disseminating work undertaken in the human rights fields - see lists here for experts:

The current Events and Communications Intern at the Human Rights Consortium is Simon Bennett.

Simon has been engaged as an Events and Communications Intern at the Human Rights Consortium since May 2011. He has reported on events including the Refugee Law Initiative seminar series on refugee integration, the Equality and Human Rights Commission workshop and the London Debates 2011. For the latter he co-edited, alongside Eadaoin O’Brien, an edited volume on 'The Future of Human Rights in the Non-Western World', and was the author of the introductory chapter. He has worked to develop and diversify the online social media presence of the HRC, managed website content and electronic mailings, and contributed to the planning and execution of events. Simon holds the voluntary position of Regional Coordinator, Southern Africa at Amnesty International UK. He also has an interest in the domestic and international rights of refugees and asylum seekers, pursued through his academic work and voluntary roles at Detention Action and the British Refugee Council. He is currently reading for an MA in Understanding and Securing Human Rights at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, School of Advanced Study, University of London.
