British Chevening Scholarships

These awards are to enable Overseas and EU students to study in the United Kingdom. To apply for a scholarship, you will need to contact the British Embassy or High Commission or the British Council in the country of which you are a citizen. The scholarships are offered in more than 150 countries. Details and the list of eligible countries are on the website. These scholarships are mainly awarded to Master’s students. 

Federal Stafford Loans

Federal Stafford loans are operated by the US Government to assist US citizens with the costs of studying.

Funding for Spanish Master's Students

The Spanish government offers interest-free loans to Spanish students studying Master's degrees in Spain, the European Higher Education Area, the US or Canada. The maximum study period is 21 months and the maximum loan per student, including an overseas allowance, is EUR 22,800. The loans, which are interest-free, have to be repaid over a 20-year period once the student's income exceeds a certain threshold.

Marshall Scholarships

For U.S. citizens only, Marshall Scholarships are mainly funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and are overseen by the Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission. Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the UK. Up to forty Scholars are selected each year to study at graduate level at UK institutions in any field of study.

NZ-UK Link Foundation Discretionary Awards

Citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand may apply for a Link Discretionary Award to continue their educational/vocational training in the UK. Applicants must demonstrate the reciprocal benefit of their proposed project to both countries - and be in a position, on completion of the Award, to communicate his/her experiences to interested groups. Applications will be assessed by the Management Committee and applicants advised shortly afterwards. Application deadline: 31 July each year. Daiwa Foundation Tohoku Scholarships

The Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation, in partnership with the British Council in Japan, launched a £250,000 scholarship fund in 2011 to support Japanese students in the Tohoku region, which was the most affected by the 2011 tsunami.

The Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2012 round of scholarships. The aim of this initiative is to support post-secondary level students seeking to study for a period at an educational institution in the United Kingdom. Applications will also be considered from students from the Tohoku region who are currently already in the UK but who require financial support to continue their studies. Deadline: 15 June 2012.
