Arts and Humanities Research Council Studentships
The School has available a number of studentships for both research (MPhil/PhD/doctoral) and Master's degrees under the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Block Grant Partnerships (BGP) scheme.
In 2013, the School will offer a number of research studentships and one Master’s degree studentship under the AHRC BGP awards scheme to Home/EU students, both full- and part-time, registered at one of the institutes of the School commencing in October 2013 from the following subject areas:
- Cultural Studies
- European Language and Culture
- History
- History of Art
- Law (within the subject area boundaries of the AHRC)
Value and eligibility criteria
AHRC scholarships cover fees and maintenance allowance. A full studentship is offered to those meeting UK residency criteria. EU nationals resident in the EU/EEA are eligible for a fees-only studentship. Overseas students are not normally eligible for AHRC funding.
Only if you have been offered a place by the institute in which you wish to study, and you have accepted it, are you eligible to submit an application for funding.
The current maintenance rates are £15,590 full-time and £9,355 part-time. Rates may be subject to change.
Further information on AHRC studentships, eligibility and terms and conditions is available on the AHRC website.
Application process
The closing date for applications is 18 March 2013. Please note that in order to apply for an AHRC studentship with the School of Advanced Study you must have been offered a place here. Eligible students can apply for AHRC studentships on the relevant application form [Word] (this is the same form on which applicants may apply simultaneously for a School of Advanced Study (SAS) Studentship.) Please refer to the guidance notes [Word] when you make your application.
Application forms must be completed and submitted electronically to two email addresses: sas.registry@sas.ac.uk and katie.barton@sas.ac.uk.
Decisions
Institutes will forward applications recommended for a AHRC or SAS Studentships to a School nominations panel. The primary criterion will be academic merit. The decision of the School will be final.
Applicants who have been nominated for an AHRC or SAS Studentship will be notified by the School in May or early June.
