In May 2009 the Institute held an all-day symposium on the subject of the ‘History of Communication’. About twenty-five invited scholars and researchers from a wide range of disciplines and institutions attended. We had a very fruitful day, by the end of which it was clear that those present thought that we had a very interesting topic which was well worth pursuing.
Due to popular request, we are moving the History of Communication series from Saturdays to a weekday evening. For this reason the symposium scheduled for the 20 March has been cancelled. Instead, the first seminar of the weekday series will take place on Tuesday 16 March between 5 and 7 pm in Room 102 Senate House, 1st Floor.
Attendance is open to all.
Future themes will include:
Banking and money transfer; Shipping and freight;
'I’m OK, you’re OK’: communication as a process of standardisation, normalisation and reassurance;
Censorship and control;
Conveying bad news;
Misreading and misinformation. |
