Tom Pegram writes for the Guardian on the Equality and Human Rights Commission
The Human Rights Consortium’s 2011 Visiting Fellow, Tom Pegram, featured in the Guardian on 6 October with a piece on the Equality and Human Rights Commission under the title ‘The equality commission deserves our support’.
This timely contribution to the debate builds on the work of Tom Pegram and Par Engstrom, Coordinator of the Human Rights Consortium at the School of Advanced Study, in advancing a research project on ‘The Equality and Human Rights Commission of Great Britain: Challenges and Opportunities’. In the first jointly-partnered collaborative venture between the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the Human Rights Consortium, Tom and Par, in partnership with Jonathan Breckon, Director of Policy and Public Affairs at the AHRC, convened a workshop in June which brought together a host of high-level delegates, including ministry officials, equality and human rights scholars and policy-makers, to reflect on the future prospects for the EHRC.
Building upon the success of the workshop, a follow-up meeting will take place at the end of October. A joint AHRC-HRC policy report based on the workshop outcomes will also be published in late 2011.
