Dame Lynne Brindley awarded honorary doctorate at the School’s 2012 graduation ceremony

Dame Lynne Brindley receives her honorary doctorate from Professor Sir Adrian Smith, Vice-Chancellor of the University of London at the School of Advanced Study's graduation ceremony in December 2012. © Lloyd Sturdy/University of London Dame Lynne Brindley, DBE was awarded the degree of Doctor of Literature honoris causa at the School’s graduation ceremony on Saturday 15 December 2012. 

The honour recognises a lifetime of achievement in the support of world-class research by Dame Lynne Brindley. As Chief Executive of the British Library, she led a major strategic development and modernisation programme to ensure that the Library remains relevant, innovative and accessible in the 21st century. Lynne Brindley came to the British Library from the University of Leeds where she was Pro-Vice-Chancellor and University Librarian. Previously she was a senior consultant with KPMG and has held leadership positions in information technology and knowledge management at Aston University and at the London School of Economics. 

77 School graduands were awarded postgraduate degrees in the humanities and social sciences at the ceremony in Senate House, of which 14 were awarded Doctor of Philosophy degrees. A total of 151 degrees were conferred on postgraduate students of the School in 2012.
