The School of Advanced Study, University of London, is pleased to announce the creation of a new Human Rights Consortium. The Consortium will bring together the multi-disciplinary expertise in Human Rights found in several Institutes of the School, as well as collaborating with individuals and organisations with an interest in the subject.
The main aim of the Human Rights Consortium will be to facilitate, promote and disseminate academic and policy work on Human Rights. It will hold conferences and seminars, host visiting fellows and coordinate the publication of high quality work in the field.
The Consortium will establish a network of Human Rights researchers, policy-makers and practitioners across the UK and internationally, with a view to collaborating on a range of activities.
One of the first activities of the Consortium will be to contribute to the School’s conference and seminar series on Fratricide and Fraternité: Understanding and Repairing Neighbourly Atrocity funded by the Mellon Foundation’s Sawyer Seminar programme. See more details about the Fratricide and Fraternité project.
New academic appointments in human rights have been made to expand the School’s existing expertise in this area. The School already offers a master’s degree in Understanding and Securing Human Rights (offered by the Institute of Commonwealth Studies), as well as courses on Human Rights in Latin America at the Institute for the Study of the Americas.
More information about the aims of the Consortium is available here. Those interested in participating in the activities of the Consortium should contact HRC@sas.ac.uk.
